This faculty first began its activity in 1964 as the Electronics Department of the Engineering faculty., which took place simultaneously with selecting Shiraz as the country's electronics hub. After that, with global developments in the field of computer science, the department of engineering and computer science was established in this faculty in 1974. For several decades, these two departments have cultivated committed, expert and efficient scholars in the field of electronics and computer engineering.
Undoubtedly, in recent decades, the rapid progress of science, technology and the expansion of knowledge in various fields has been due to the increasing growth of branches related to electrical and computer engineering. The widespread effects of information and communication technology on today's world is a clear example of these developments. The Faculty of Electronics and Computer Engineering was established in October 2017, relying on the high power and golden history of accomplishments and great performance.
In addition to educational activities, professors and students of this faculty are very active in the field of Industrial communications and running knowledge-based companies. The number of contracts being executed by the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Engineering is 172 and the number of contract executors is 45; these contracts have brough in more than 150 billion Rials as revenues. This Faculty has thus been recognized as one of the most efficient faculties of Shiraz University among various educational, research-industrial, student and administrative fields.

پیشینه بخش برق
بنیان این بخش در سال 1343 توسط دکتر رفیع مودت، یکی از اساتید دانشکده مهندسی، گذاشته شد. در سال 1344 با رسیدن وسایل آزمایشگاهی خریداری شده، سه آزمایشگاه دائر شد که عبارت بودند از:
- آزمایشگاه الکترونیک
- آزمایشگاه ماکروویو
- آزمایشگاه اندازه‌گیری دقیق
در سال 46-45 با ساخته شدن ساختمان جدید مهندسی، در بخش برق آزمایشگاه‌های مختلف و متعدد به مساحت 1200 متر مربع و یک کارگاه تعمیرات وسایل الکترونیکی ایجاد شد. تعداد استادان این بخش در آن سال به 6 نفر رسید و در همین سال، دوره MSc (فوق لیسانس) مهندسی برق الکترونیک مطابق با برنامه دانشگاه‌های معتبر دنیا تهیه شد و مورد تایید شورای مرکزی دانشگاه‌ها قرار گرفت. با گسترش امکانات آزمایشگاهی و تحقیقاتی و افزایش تعداد کادر آموزشی، تعداد دانشجویان پذیرفته شده نیز افزایش یافت و گرایش‌های جدیدی نیز ایجاد شد.
با گسترش بخش‌های برق و کامپیوتر، طبق مصوبه هیات رییسه دانشگاه در سال 1378 به دانشکده برق و کامپیوتر تبدیل شد که شامل بخش‌های:
- مهندسی مخابرات و الکترونیک
- مهندسی قدرت و کنترل
- مهندسی و علوم کامپیوتر و فناوری اطلاعات
می‌باشد. در حال حاضر نیز با برخورداری از اساتیدی مجرب و آزمایشگاه‌ها و مراکز پژوهشی ممتاز و مجهز از جمله آزمایشگاه و مرکز تخصصی آپا (آگاهی رسانی-پشتیبانی و امداد رایانه‌ای) که بزرگترین مرکز متولی پاسخ به رخدادهای امنیت فضای سایبری در جنوب کشور می‌باشد، در زمره‌ی سرآمدترین دانشکده‌های مهندسی برق و کامپیوتر کشور به حساب می‌آید.
